Project Summary

This job consisted of expanding the Passenger Security Checkpoint at Midway Airport in Chicago. To accomplish this, the existing bridge that crosses Cicero Avenue needed to be wider. Stalworth was awarded the construction of the deep foundation system required for the expansion of the existing bridge. The design initially consisted of 208 micropiles and 42 drilled shafts. However, after reviewing the site conditions and work plan we proposed a value engineered solution that provided over a $700,000 credit as well as cutting over 2 months off the schedule. In the end 75 caissons were installed as well as 62 micropiles.
